Week 9 Players: Lamar Jackson gets back to work

Every Wednesday in the NFL is awards day. In both the NFC and AFC, three players of the week have been named. An offensive player, a defensive player and a special teams player. These rewards, although without “real” value, are always nice and highlight different profiles. MVP, All Pro, proven veteran, rookie or overnight star, they all go through it.

Lamar Jackson is back strong

On his return after missing three games, Lamar Jackson (QB, Ravens) is the AFC Player of the Week. The quarterback didn’t have to oblige against dolphins to throw his four strikes.

Statistics : 18/23, 204 yards, 4 TDs – 28-6 win over Miami.

Defensively, it’s Alex Highsmith (LB, Steelers) who takes the honors. The linebacker did everything he could to secure a prestigious victory against the strongest offense in the league. He sacked Daniel Jones (QB, Colts) twice and caused a fumble.

Statistics : 4 tackles including 3 for loss, 2 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 1 pass defended – 27-20 win vs. Indianapolis.

Finally, Cam Little (K, Jaguars) is rewarded for his record. The rookie now holds the longest mark for a touchdown: 68 yards. Soon 70?

Statistics : 3/3 FG including 68 yards, 3/3 XP – 30-29 win vs. Las Vegas.

Colston Loveland saves Chicago

First award for rookie Colston Loveland (TE, Bears). The tight end capped his very good game with a 58-yard game-winning touchdown with 17 seconds left in the game.

Statistics : 6 receptions, 118 yards, 2 TDs – 47-42 win over Cincinnati.

Defensively, Tre’von Moehrig (S, Panthers) showed up. The safety stood out with 1 interception and 2 tackles for loss to help the Panthers upset the Packers.

Statistics : 5 tackles including 2 for loss, 1 interception, 2 passes defensed – 16-13 win vs. Green Bay.

On special teams, Levi Rodriguez (DL, Vikings) is rewarded for his blocked field goal against the Lions.

Statistics : Blocked FG (2 kicks, 1 sack) – 27-24 win over Detroit.
