Rumors about Apple’s upcoming hardware updates continue to circulate, with the iPhone 17 lineup, iPhone SE 4, and new Powerbeats Pro all in the news over the past week.
On the software side, the public release of iOS 18.3 and related updates are just around the corner, while we got a possible first look at what could be some design tweaks for iOS 19 later this year, so read on below for all the details!
Apple is rumored to release an ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air later this year, and a recent rumor claims it could be just 5.5mm thick. To give an idea of how thin this would be, we’ve teased what such a device would look like compared to the current iPhone 16 Pro Max at 8.25mm and the 13-inch iPad Pro at just 5.1mm.
In other iPhone 17 rumors, a alleged photo of a pair of rear shells for an upcoming iPhone model surfaced this week, with the model believed to be the iPhone 17 Air considering it appears to have only one rear camera. The unique design includes a horizontal stripe across the top of the back shell, so we’ll have to see if that turns out to be accurate or not.
Apple’s release candidate versions of iOS 18.3 and related updates this week, suggesting a full public release is likely to come next week.
In addition to the previously discussed changes around Apple Intelligence’s notification summaries, iOS 18.3 brings a few more changes including improvements in the visual intelligence feature for camera control on iPhone 16 models.
Renowned cell phone whistleblower Evan Blass this week shared some telling information short term updates for iPhone SE, iPad and iPad Airbut the most intriguing things are related to the upcoming iPhone SE.
Despite a recent rumor that Apple might call the new model the “iPhone 16E,” the code leaked by Blass refers to the device as the “iPhone SE (4th Generation).” This may be a placeholder, but it still throws more uncertainty into the possibility of the 16E designation.
A purported image of the upcoming devices also depicts the fourth-generation iPhone SE as having a dynamic island rather than a notch at the top of the display. There have been conflicting rumors about how the upcoming iPhone SE will fare on that front, so we’ll have to wait and see about that as well.
iOS 19 will have one Redesigned Camera app inspired by visionOSaccording to a recent video by Jon Prosser, host of YouTube channel Front Page Tech.
Prosser received video of the purported new Camera app, but he chose to share his recreated images to protect his sources. The images reveal that the app will supposedly gain transparent menus for various camera controls, with the design of these menus looking very similar to the visionOS interface on the Apple Vision Pro headset.
In September, Apple said it would launch the Powerbeats Pro 2 in 2025, and it looks like the wireless headphones are coming very soon.
In his Turning this week’s newsletter, BloombergMark Gurman said that The Powerbeats Pro 2 are “finally”. In addition to Apple’s Powerbeats Pro 2 filing in regulatory filings last month, Gurman said Apple is planning to hold product announcements with the media “within a week or so” to go over the wireless headphones’ new features.
