THE Pittsburgh Steelers (8-6) were hot on Sunday in their matchup against the Detroit Lions (8-7).
Aaron Rodgers and his group won 29 to 24, thus signing a third consecutive victory. Detroit suffers its second straight loss.
Jared Goff found Amon-Ra St. Brown in the goal post who then gave him the ball by way of a lateral. Goff finished with the touchdown, but the entire comeback fell short due to a pass interference penalty against Brown.
The officials spoke for a while on the field before announcing their decision, much to the dismay of the crowd. The penalty proved to be the last play of the match.
“In my opinion, it was a bad call by the officials,” Goff said simply.
A few plays earlier, Goff had joined Brown for a punt, but once again, a penalty derailed the Lions’ drive. Isaac Tesla found searching for a blocking gesture.
With the win, Pittsburgh is assured of finishing over .500 for the 19th straight season under Mike Tomlin.
The loss of the Lions ensured it Chicago Bears and to San Francisco 49ers a place in the playoffs.
Detroit’s only chance to participate now is if Green Bay Packers lose the last two games and the Lions win the last two duels against the Minnesota Vikings and Bears.
“We know the percentages,” said Goff, who threw two of his three passes in the fourth quarter. We know we are not eliminated. We know that some things have to work in our favor. »
Jaylen Warren stood out on offense for the Steelers. The running back had two rushing touchdowns for 45 yards in the fourth quarter. He finished with a career-high 143 yards, which gave him a 230-15 advantage in rushing yards.
Goff finished the game with three touchdown passes, including two in the final quarter of ETC. Jahmyr Gibbs. TeSlaa’s in the second quarter was his first of the game. He completed 34 of his 54 passes for 364 yards.
Rodgers threw for 266 yards and completed 27 passes on 41 attempts.
“We’ve been playing playoff football for three weeks,” Rodgers said.
“I’m extremely grateful to my players and the fighting spirit they showed, individually and collectively,” Mike Tomlin said. Of course we have not been perfect, we have faced many misfortunes, some of them through our fault. But they didn’t give up and that’s what it takes at this stage of the season. »
