Barcelona beat Valencia at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, thrashing them 7-1 to secure their first La Liga win of the year.
The Catalans sealed the game in the first 15 minutes. In just his second La Liga start this season, Frenkie de Jong scored the opener after Lamine Yamal provided him with a league-leading 10th assist of the campaign. Ferran Torres doubled the lead after eight minutes and Fermin Lopez set up Rafinha for Barca’s third just 14 minutes into the game.
Barcelona they are not done with the first half of the holiday. Pau Coubarsi found Fermin in a powerful strike and the Olympic gold medalist scored Barca’s fourth on 23 minutes. Fermin would make his save after Rafinha hit the crossbar as he was there to pounce on the rebound a minute before half-time.
With the win already in the bag, Barcelona stepped on the gas in the second half. Hugo Duro scored for Valencia in the 59th minute. However, Barcelona responded six minutes later with Robert Lewandowski’s header being his 17th goal of the season. Valencia’s nightmare only got worse when Cesar Tarrega gifted Barca their seventh goal with an own goal.
The Blaugranas desperately needed the win to stay in the title race. Flick’s men are now seven points adrift of Real Madrid and within striking distance of second-placed Atletico Madrid.
