I included NVIDIA RTX 5090 in hand game

Two weeks ago I showed you How does the world’s fastest graphics card work in a small factor computerS To my surprise, Nvidia’s RTX 5090 Edition provided most of its performance even in a 12.7-liter desktop with a five-year processor.

That made me think: What if I instead plug this card into a hand -held game computer? So I did it and let me tell you: It’s wonderful to watch. It is enough to make me believe in a rich future, where handmade devices become powerful when they dock them at home.

I started with the same $ 1,999 RTX 5090 Fe and 1000-watt power supply from my desktop computers by releasing them both A $ 99 MinISForum DEG1S This is an outdoor outdoor graphics processor that can be connected to the Oculink port, which is now delivered to a handful of portable games for games, as long as you bring your own board graphic processor and power.

I included this cable Oculink in Earn GPD of $ 1,000 Max.S And then, with only AMD Ryzen 8840U mobile processor and four PCIe 4.0 bands, not the 16 PCIe 5.0 strips, which GPU of NVIDIA technically supports, technically support my new Franken-Desktop Spit Fire. I talk over 100 frames per second in Cyberpunk 2077 at 4K resolution and ultra settings. I’m talking about playing games in all the most intense games with 4K and almost maximum specifications.

In our eight test games, this do Run between 7 percent and 47 percent more slowly than when my colleague Tom Warren ghosts 5090 with the fastest cash processors they can buy. But it was only 4 to 29 percent more slowly than this 5090 on my SFF desktop and far faster than when I glued the RTX 3080 on this desktop. And it was four to 12 times faster than the Handheld Radeon 780m’s integrated graphics processor can manage alone.

Start with the “5090 hand” column in my table below:

For example, my GPD WIN MAX 2 to review the block averages only 17fps in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 In Extreme Spec, at the native resolution of the screen 2560 x 1600 -and if I set up the game of the lowest, most possible potato graphics for pixel resolution 640 x 480, the best I can get is 113fps. Turn on the RTX 5090 and I get 131fps with the graph at their highest settings. From potato to ultra with one plug – and mortgage payment.

Not that you would like to play games that are powerful on the small interior screen of hand, of course -and I saw that even the best results are included in an external monitor because you lose less performance back and forth through this cable through this cable Oculink. My Call of Duty The frame speed passed from 131 frames per second on the interior screen from 1600p to 134 frames per second on an external 4K monitor. By our test games, only Black myth: Vukong It fell below 60 frames per second for native 4K.

I do not want to overcome too much Oculink Gpus because they are not fully ready for prime time and they come with some big warnings compared to Thunderbolt and USB-C Tech.

First, the Oculink cables are no Hot underwater as USB products. It’s So We are tempting to imagine a game of manual play, then turn it on and resume with incredible big screen graphics, but this is not reality. You need to turn off your computer every time you connect and turn off or risk damage – the first time I tried the Oculink system a year ago, I obviously damaged its port forever. And before powering your computer, you must first power EGPU. (MinISForum DEG1 I use is trying to synchronize with a connected computer and power and shutdown at the same time, but it was not stupid for me; the company says it is intended to synchronize with its own mini-PC.)

Second, the current Oculink cables themselves are not as sturdy, designed as many USB products. While they are shaped like a smaller display, with the same type of locking connector, they look far easier to accidentally discard, bend or break.

Third, Oculink is not a cable docking solution like a Thunderbolt or USB4, as it does not provide USB data, audio or connecting a connected laptop: I had to start a separate USB-C power cable to the hand devices I tested. This is a feature, not a mistake, so there is nothing to interfere with your GPU band.

Fourth, there is simply not so many Oculink devices. GPD is a devoted discharge and I tested it that it works with an early sample of Ayaneo 3But the companies you will find in your local best purchase – Asus, Lenovo – are currently placing USB4 ports in their pocket devices instead of Oculink.

And in fifth place, Oculink is currently so conceived for companies such as NVIDIA that their drivers have obviously been tied for years. When I first included 5090 in GPD Win Max 2 and Ayaneo 3, they at all refused to touch its power until I installed Developed in the Error43 patch It worked as magic. However, I saw a few catastrophes that I couldn’t give up.

Hand games with a manual game joined a large graphic processor of a wide woven lid cable.

Today, Prospect Egpu Buyers Have To Pick Between The Reduced Bandwidth and Compatibility Pains of Thunderbolt 4 and USB 4 OR the Cleaner but-serly-best to Materialize S Asus has already announced The first Thunderbolt 5 EGPUEven if the company currently has no smaller, smaller computers with Thunderbolt 5 that could actually benefit from it and maybe some future 80Gbps USB4 Devices can offer the same without needing a Thunderbolt certification on Intel.

Maybe then I won’t need a desktop at all. I’ll have a hand -made game computer and just plug it into my EGPU when I get home. Perhaps this may even be the future of computer games for the tables – a future for those who do not want to stand up desktops – if the industry can simply understand which cable to use.
