FG Mourning Former German President Kohaler


The federal government, on Sunday, expressed condolences with the government and the people of Germany after former President Horst Kohaler was passed.

Kohaler died on Saturday at the age of 81 after a brief illness, the presidential officials announced.

In a statement issued by the acting spokesperson of the Nigerian government, the Ministry of External Affairs, Kmibi Abionfa accepted Kahler’s contribution to global development.

Kohaler, who served as the President of Germany from 2004 to 2010, was also a former Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund.

“FG accepts its commitment to international cooperation, economic stability and multilateralism.

“Their efforts to strengthen relations between Germany and African countries including Nigeria are the major aspects of his legacy,” the statement said.

The statement paid attention to Kohlar’s support, his advocacy for sustainable development and his contribution to his engagement with Africa to promote peace and economic development.

“His death is a disadvantage not only for Germany but also for the international community. Their leadership, service and dedication will continue to inspire future generations.

“Horst Kohalar’s death is a major disadvantage not only for Germany but also for the global community, which greatly benefited from his leadership, vision and dedication to international cooperation and development.

The statement said, “At this moment of grief, Nigeria stands in solidarity with the people of Germany and respects the memory of a distinguished politician, whose life was dedicated to the discovery of a better world.”
