Rapper DJ Unk, famous for ‘Walk It Out’, has died aged 42 – as his wife pays a heartbreaking tribute.
Sherkita Long-Platt shared the heartbreaking news on Facebook, prompting an outpouring of other tributes from friends in the industry.
She wrote: “Please respect me and my family. I just lost my husband and my children just lost their father. Our lives will never be the same. I love you Anthony forever.”
The Atlanta star, whose full name was Anthony Leonard Platt, signed to Robinson’s Big Oomp Records in 2000.
In addition to walking it, he is also played for Hip Hop Tune 2 Step.
In a statement, label founder Korey “Big Oomp” Robinson said: “DJ Unk was not only a legendary DJ, rapper and producer, but a true cornerstone of our label and the imprint he left behind worldwide will be worldwide to be cherished forever.
“Hits like ‘Walk It Out’ and ‘2 Step’ left an indelible mark on the industry and his legacy will continue to inspire artists, DJs and fans alike for years to come. His energy, creativity and commitment to his craft will never be forgotten.”
Meanwhile, DJ Montay, who collaborated with UNK, wrote on Facebook: “RIP UNK GLASS to say we managed to make history together.”
Like DJ Montay, UNK has collaborated with other stars, including Vic, throughout his career.
