Behind a prolonged body attack and brutal punch of force, David Benavides surpassed David Morel to win a unanimous solution in battle with heavyweight heavyweight titles in Las Vegas on Saturday night.
The clash between the heated rivals was a fun battle of Power Punchers, but the accuracy, aggression and volume of Benavides won him victory.
The 28 -year -old Benavides repeatedly told his opponent that drilling the body would be the key to recruiting. But it was Benavides who would have tried the canvas in the 11th round when the right hand caught him in balance. Unfortunately for Morel, he had deducted a drilling point after the bell during a fierce exchange.
The knockdown was too small, too late when Benavides accumulated an insurmountable lead to maintain his temporary WBC title and claim that the “regular” title of Morrell’s WBA. The judges scored the match 115-111, 115-111 and 118-108.
“This is the world of Monster,” called the Benavidez “Mexican Monster,” said in response to Morel, saying he did not believe in the monsters in the accumulation of the match. “You know what it is, but a big cry of Morel. He did a difficult test. I knew it would be a difficult fighter. That’s why I was prepared so hard for it. I’m just happy that people were able to get a good show tonight. “
Benavides (30-0, 24 CO) spent much of the match on the front leg, applying pressure and punching the Cuban on the body. Morel (11-1) decided to stand in front of Benavides instead of using his movement to prevent his opponent from attaching him to the ropes. Things were competitive early, but Benavides began to gain speed in the middle circles as he delivered a prolonged attack on the body and breaks Morel with lead tops.
By 7, Benavides had already landed more blows to Morel than any of Morel’s previous opponents, and slid into a groove of Jab’s pumping, struck by Morel’s torso and leaving lead upper forests. Morel would fight spurs and managed to land some heavy power shots, but Benavides’ chin was lingering extremely well.
Just when Benavides seemed too comfortable to beat his way forward, Morel caught him alert in the 11th round with a metement hook that bet Benavides for the second time in his career. Although the knockout did not seem to harm Benavides, the bell -bent after the bell certainly caught his attention.
“I wasn’t really hurt, but it was after the bell,” Benavides said. “The little bulls — a knockdown caught me for balance. That is. But as I said, it was a good battle.”
Benavides landed 224 out of 553 beats (41%) to 165 of 601 (27%) of Morel. But it will be the 76 body strikes landed by Benavides, who will allow him to take control. Morel fought valiantly, but he was overcome as he threw more blows than Benavides, but landed at a far smaller frequency.
Former WBC Super Champion with Middle Category, Benavides has long been striving for a fight with Canelo Alvarez in what will be one of the biggest battles that can be made in boxing. But Alvarez showed little interest in the match, which led to Benavides to move to a light heavyweight category to pursue the world titles in a new weight.
Benavides is on the line to face the winner of February 22, an undeniable heavyweight rematch between Arthur Betherbiev and Dmitry Bivol.
“This is the biggest (victory of my) career so far, because look at all the people who came out and supported me,” Benavides said. “I just want to be the best of my era.
