The Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills have one half of their AFC Championship matchup in the books, with the defending NFL champions holding a slim 21-16 lead.
As expected with these two giants, it was a back-and-forth affair with a trip to Super Bowl LIX. Kansas City got on the scoreboard to start after Kareem Hunt’s nine-play, 90-yard touchdown drive. However, the Bills fought back and took the lead early in the second quarter after recovering Patrick Mahomes’ fumble on a fumble. Josh Allen directed a 72-yard punt and converted a number of key third downs before James Cook rushed for a score to make it 10-7.
Just as the Bills took the lead, the Chiefs took it back thanks to rookie Xavier Worthy, whom Kansas City traded for a first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft in a deal with Buffalo. His 11-yard score put the Chiefs ahead, and a Mahomes rushing touchdown that followed briefly extended the lead to double digits. Buffalo was able to cut into the deficit with a 34-yard touchdown pass from Allen to Mack Hollins just before halftime, but KC now has the upper hand with the second half on the horizon.
Will Kansas City hold on to that lead and advance to the Super Bowl and try to make the first-ever NFL triple play? Or will the Bills rally and punch their ticket to New Orleans?
