Key events
Bills 0-7 Chiefs, 4:06 First Quarter
Alan pulls the trigger! But then he falls right on top of it! CBS says the Bills haven’t lost a hit since week four. Good stats!
It’s 3rd and 9. Shakir has the catch on the far side, he drops back trying to find an edge but can’t so Buffalo is short.
Here comes the field goal department!
Bills 0-7 Chiefs, 5:52 First Quarter
Allen warms up, finding Cooper on a slant for nine yards. It’s 3rd and 1 and Tush’s push works, it’s magic. Allen does it on the second push within the pressure. First down! KC 40 ball!
Bills 0-7 Chiefs, 6:52 First Quarter
All kinds of play changes at the line from Allen, moving pieces, tipping and then Kincaid’s completion for 11 yards. It was worth it!
Cook then gets stuck and only gets a yard.
On 3rd and 3, Allen sees Shakir for 12 yards, and the Bills have a first down!
That will reassure those in Orchard Park just a little. Ball at the bills 48.
Bills 0-7 Chiefs, 8:51 First Quarter
Touch back, then Cook moves for about five yards. But there is a flag for illegal formation on the accounts. Come on people! Take it together!
So now it’s 1st and 15 of 25. Gulp!
How did it happen!
Ninety yards, nine plays in just 5:05. This is how it ended.
Now, can Allen throw a few passes to some of his own players?
Kareem hunts, up the middle, then a quick cut to the right and into the end zone! And just like that, 90 yards, it melts like butter and a hot knife.
Bills 0-0 Chiefs, 9:41 First Quarter
KC’s offense moves easily, freely, wonderfully. Pacheco ran up the middle for three yards on first down.
Then J.Smith-Schuster is in the middle and he runs. And run! Lots of space and he’s not done until 32 yards later!
Hunt now works for eight! to the Buffalo 13. That’s too easy.
Bills 0-0 Chiefs, 12:16 First Quarter
It’s all Hollywood Brown right now! Two receptions for a total of 20 yards. Patrick then works for four by picking up a first down. The Chiefs are on the move, up to their 34.
Bills 0-0 Chiefs, 14:08 First Quarter
Alan just throws the pill around like it’s nothing! On 3rd and 6, he throws what should have been his second interception, but somehow doesn’t. And that is truly miraculous. So the Bills Punt and the Chiefs will start at their 10.
The Bills have it first, and Cook runs right for about four yards! Then the other chef, the one in the bosses secondary, almost knocks Alan off! Koyo, this should have been intercepted!
And I quote:
“We know what we’re here to do,” Mr. Mahomes said in a quick CBS interview here in the United States when asked about the “three-tier.”
I believe him.
National Anthem
Retired Navy Petty Officer First Class (they say three times as fast) General Wilson belts out the National Anthem and is quite convincing. Rock solid version, no problems here. I give it a 7.5. This is what it sounds like in 2023. in KC if you feel the need. Just remember to stand up and remove your cap.
Here they come
The Chiefs run on the field, circa 1950s Holey, Mid-American banners. Everything is very warm and helpful, and Mahomes and Kelce looked just great.
Speaking of warm, it’s pretty prom-atmosphere in KC compared to what it’s been lately. It’s 31f, -0.5c. So the weather won’t be a factor tonight.
Red, yellow and zebra
If you think the spotlight will shine brightly on these two teams today, spare a thought for the referees. The non-main soccer world was disgusted last week after a couple of calls went KC’s way, with accusations of “pampering” Patrick thrown at the ref. And the League. Is he pampered? Well, most fantasy QBs are. More than most? Maybe. With all the whining this week, it’s curious to note that NFL appointed Clete Blakeman to head the officials tonight.
Ryan Miller of the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle notes the following:
“It’s Mahomes 6-5 In Games, official by Blakeman. This is his second-worst record among the 20 referees who have officiated at his games. The five losses under Blakeman’s crew represent 21.7% of Mahomes’ 23 career losses. “
And then there’s this must-read piece if you want to pursue more statistical fuel:
I saw a crazy stat on ESPN yesterday that I couldn’t believe
Last 4 years, over Chiefs 11 playoff games:
0 Games The Chiefs had more penalties
10 games opponents had more penalties
Wow
So I compared them to other playoff teams…

Eagles fly to the great plain
No, it’s not over, but right now the Eagles look set to represent the NFC in Super Bowl Lix on February 9th, as they currently hold Washington 48-23.
By the way, I had to ask the internet what number Lix is. I really love how NFL Refuses to downplay his Super Bowl years.
“Lix is the Roman numeral for 59. To convert 59 to Roman numerals, write it in expanded form, ie 59 = 50 + (10 – 1), then replace the converted integers with the corresponding Roman numerals to give 59 = l + (x – i) = lix. “
.
Three bags
If you think winning Super-Back matches is difficult, how about three on the trot? It’s so hard it’s never happened. The Chiefs are the ninth team in the Super Bowl era to care. Of those eight teams, since 1976 alone. Pittsburgh Steelers and 1990 The San Francisco 49ers have reached the championship stage. Pittsburgh, who beat the Oakland Raiders in the AFC title games from behind, finally succumbed to the silver and black, 24-7, as the Giants famously (to NYG fans) took down the Niners, in San Francisco with a last-second field goal.
Legendary broadcaster Pat Samal announced “There won’t be a three-peat” after Bach called that afternoon. Can the Chiefs turn that script around today?
Hello and welcome to our live coverage of the AFC Championship Game where the Buffalo Bills are headed to Kansas City to take on the Chiefs! The winner takes on the winner of the Commanders and Eagles NFC Championship game happening right now, and don’t hesitate Go at it until it’s resolved. I won’t be offended.
In the meantime, here’s a question for you. Andy Reid is 90-26 in his last seven seasons as the Chiefs’ head coach. He is 15-3 in the playoffs during that time, including an eight-game postseason winning streak. This season, KC has won 15 games and lost two, one really: that last Broncos loss was an off week. So how is it that a team like this, with two straight Super Bowl wins in the can, is only favored by two points for the V Bills? Shouldn’t it be more given their experience?
The answer is, as always, the bookies know things. And the thing is, yes, the Chiefs won 15 games, and yes, they find a way to win all the time, with and without the controversial VIP treatment from officials, but this team really pushes it. They don’t really have enough. They work on the margins: just look This statistical season comparisonThey do it with smoke, mirrors, massive coaching and muscle memory.
And that’s the narrative we’ve all heard, and for good reason: it seems to be true. Here’s a Reddit post That said, based on point differential, KC should have won 59.73% of their games. Instead, KC won over 88% of their games. That claims beating the Minnesota Vikings in 2022. Another Reddit post. Those Vikings were defeated by another over performing team, the New York Giants, who were subsequently annihilated in the divisional round and then fell deep into the abyss.
Now, a week after playing a fake team, KC has to play for real. The Chiefs were fortunate to avoid the Ravens, who are better than the Bills despite their loss in Buffalo last week. That said, Josh Allen also knows how to win with less around him: Buffalo lost their key wideout and some important cogs they couldn’t afford to hang around. What they’re up to: Keon Coleman, James Cook and Khalil Shaqir.
KC is basically due for a whip, will it be the bills that stop KC’s playoff streak? That’s what we’re about to find out. Oh, and I have to ask, what do you think? Let me know via “X” or email and we’ll get you in the paper. Otherwise, get ready for the game of the season and stay tuned for more coverage!

David will be here soon. Meanwhile, here’s Graham Searles in today’s game:
Season history: Just like in 2023, the Chiefs were fired up for much of last year, coasting along in low gear, poised to become a playoff contender. They remain the best coached and best prepared team in the NFL. Their only stumbling block: the bills. Josh Allen’s slashing runs on fourth-and-two when the teams met in the regular season was a blur on an otherwise pristine copy. So can Buffalo do it again? Can Allen finally make a definitive mark after losing to Mahomes three times in the postseason? The pressure is on in what is sure to be another instant classic.
What Buffalo must do to win: Drop the ball. Kansas City’s defense has a weak spot that can be exploited by James Cook and Allen. The Chiefs have mellowed out somewhat after holding the Bills to a respectable 104 rushing yards when they met in Week 11. In their last five games, Kansas City has allowed an average of 150 rushing yards while the Bills have consistently dominated on the ground, averaging 170 yards in the eight games since the Chiefs’ win. Most importantly, in the playoffs, the Baltimore Ravens and Denver Broncos—the NFL’s best and third-best owners in terms of total yards allowed in 2024—each gave up a season total against Buffalo. If this is the damage Cook and Allen can do to opponents who specialize in shutting down runners, then the duo will likely cause serious problems in Kansas City.
What Kansas City needs to do to win: Put the ball in Xavier Worthy’s hands. In head coach Andy Reid’s scheme, the speedy wide receiver can stretch the Buffaloes deep down the field. That should give Mahomes an explosive target to unlock the Bills, the second potentially missing star Christian Benford, who is in concussion protocol. Reid also needs to work with creative touches for decent when the Chiefs have the ball inside the red zone. He brings a crucial playmaking threat to support the more routine, efficient production of Travis Kelce. The Bills struggled in close games in the postseason last season, and the jitters were evident again last week when Lamar Jackson fumbled in the second half. Reid can count on being worthy of being an X-factor, as Tyreek Hill was in the epic 2022 Majors division win over Buffalo.
Key player for the Bills: Spencer Brown, right tackle. Brown is having a fantastic season defending his quarterback and blocking the run. Allen has been sacked just 17 times in 19 games this season, while Brown and his offensive line have helped Buffalo score more than 30 points on 13 occasions. Most exciting for the Bills, the 6-foot-8-inch, 310-pound Breezer was missing from their regular-season win over the Chiefs. When they need to score, they can count on Brown to do the dirty work that makes Allen shine.
Key player for Chiefs: Jalen Watson, corner. The difference for Kansas City could be Watson returning to the secondary. The defensive back, who missed the Bills’ regular season loss, enjoyed a timely warm-up against Houston. The Chiefs coverage is exceptional with Trent McDuffie alongside him. They should allow Steve Spagnuolo to focus his defense on more important matters: stopping the run.
