In a February 2021 episode of her podcast Empty insideIcarly Alum told the guest Anna Faris That she decided to stop acting a few years back and is now focusing on opportunities to write and direct in addition to hosting the podcast.

“My experience with acting is, I’m very ashamed of the parts I’ve done in the past,” revealed Jennette, who detailed her experience in her 2022 memoir I’m glad my mom died. “I resist my career in a lot of ways. I feel so unfulfilled by the roles I was playing and I felt like it was the cheesiest, most awkward. I did the shows that I was from like 13 to 21, and by 15, I was already in embarrassment. It was embarrassing.”

Although she has not fully written a second act. “I feel like just by writing the book, have I come to a place where I think there might be a way to explore acting that doesn’t carry that baggage that I’ve been carrying around for so long,” she told E! News in October 2022. “Maybe if I write something about myself. I think that would really be one of the only ways I could try to explore it again.”
