New travel app launched for Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site

A new ride-on-demand service will start on Monday at Shropshire’s Ironbridge Gorge Heritage Site.

The service – which is managed using an app – advises residents and visitors on the best travel option for them, including advice on whether to use the on-demand shuttle bus or existing bus routes.

As well as traditional bus stops, the app will also have virtual stops in a wider area that are shared with the user through the app and based on their location, according to Telford and Wrekin Council.

The local authority said if the scheme was successful, it could be used elsewhere in the area.

“This is an exciting new development – the on-demand app brings a level of flexibility that will significantly improve travel for residents and tourists alike,” said Councilor Ollie Vickers.

“We’re keen to invite people along to help us test the app and make sure it works for everyone, so if you’d like to get involved, please get in touch – we’d love to hear real feedback from a range of people.”

Initially, the service will operate Monday to Friday between 08:00 and 17:30 GMT but this will be revised ahead of the busiest summer months.

The app is available to download now from both the App Store and Google Play.
