Andrew Tate’s return to combat sports did not go as planned.
On Saturday night, Tate returned to action for the first time in five years, challenging Chase DeMoor for the Misfits Heavyweight Title at the Misfits Mania Duty Free Tennis Stadium in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. And after a good early start, Tate faded quickly, getting beaten by the older, younger champion.
A former kickboxer-turned-influencer, Tate is an extremely controversial figure who is currently facing rape and human-trafficking charges in multiple countries, which he denies. But despite those allegations, Tate still has plenty of supporters, many of whom were on hand Saturday, chanting “Top-G!” while Tate left for the ring. Those same supporters were pleased early on as Tate used his superior striking skills to pound DeMoor with kicks and body shots.
Things began to change in the second round, however, as DeMoor began to press and push Tate, causing him to hold his weight and put on the old fight. It worked well, wearing down Tate and slowing down his offense. By the fourth round, Tate was visibly exhausted in the ring and DeMoor began hitting him with heavy shots, driving him to the canvas several times. Despite the beating, Tate never went down, surviving until the final bell, where DeMoor was awarded a majority decision.
After the bout, Tate left his combat sports future up in the air, giving credit to DeMoor and saying he’ll go home and think about whether to fight again. DeMoor, meanwhile, called on his influential friend, boxer Tommy Fury.
