Battery Park City, Manhattan (WABC) – More than 200 Holocosts gathered in Lower Manhattan on Monday in honor of the 80th anniversary of the International Holocost Day and the 80th anniversary of Aushwitz.
To celebrate the day, a new initiative was initiated in New York City to listen to the stories of the surviving people. “Survivor Stories: A Interactive Dialogue” was opened on Monday in the Museum of Jewish Heritage, which is accompanied by visitors to ask 10 people through AI and capable of performing authentic answers.
“I was happy to be a part of it,” said Martiza Shelli. “I think the emphasis or you and everyone were involved, young people should be educated. I have gone to some schools. My children never heard the whole story. It was frightening.”
Shelli was only one of the speakers-all now in their 90s-which were part of the group who had pre-tapped their interviews about their lives before and after Holocost. Rabbi Mayor Kizelic was another.
Kizlnik’s father was taken from his family and murdered by the Hungarian police in 1944. Kizlnik was sent to Aushwitz when he was just 13 years old.
“Germans saw that they were losing the war,” said Kizlnik. “So they have death. There is no food, nothing. I was march on death. The thousand people who were sent in the death march, and I survived.”
More than 200 Holocosts participated in the launch, which matched with the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Aushwitz.
“This is a particularly meaningful to me,” said Rape Dan Goldman. “My grandmother survived Pogroms in Ukraine in the early 1920s.”
Another survivor, Frank, told eyewitness news that his parents tried to get out of Germany, which they could cross the border in Holland and make the best.
“Holland built a refugee camp for the German Jews,” he said. “And so they were in Westerberg, the camp that was Westerbork, the same camp that went through Anne Frank. But she was not a celebrity at the age of three.”
The city of New York visited the day by illuminating the city hall and several other buildings in yellow color.
City Hall also announced a new exhibition called “The Anguish of Liberation az Art in Art” at City Hall Rotunda, which will be open for the next week.
