1 of the 3 soldiers who died in Washington, DC accident was from North Carolina, went to UNC

Washington (WBTV) – One of the soldiers who died in this week’s helicopter -Ayerplane accident in Washington, DC was from Northern Carolina and graduated from UNC, according to officials.

Army confirmed On Saturday, Captain Rebecca Lobac was one of the three soldiers, who were in a Black Hawk Helicopter, who collided with a passenger jet near Reagan National Airport on Wednesday, 29 January.

All 67 people involved in the collision – including three soldiers – died. The aircraft had Charlotte relations in at least five of 64 people. All four members of the Crew of Flight 5342 were out of Queen City, and lived at least one passenger in Charlett.

For Loback, the army shared a statement from its family, stating that it was a prestigious military graduate at ROTC at North Carolina University, and was in the top 20% of cadets across the country. He had a flight time of over 450 hours and earned certification in his battalion as a pilot-in-command after extensive testing by the most senior and experienced pilots in his battalion.

During its time in the United States Army, Lobac was awarded the Army’s praise medal, Army’s achievement medal, National Defense Service Medal and Army Service Ribbon.

The Lobac family said that the fallen soldier worked as an aviator of the army as well as a military social ally of the White House. The family said that he hosted “countless” White House events to help host the President and the first woman, including the medal of honor and presidential medal.

“Rebecca was many things. She was a daughter, sister, partner and friend, ”her family said. “He was a servant, a careful, a lawyer. Most of all, she loved and loved. His life was small, but he distinguished in the lives of all those who knew him. Our hearts break up for other families who have lost loved ones in this national tragedy and we mourn them. ,

UNC Chancellor Lee Roberts in view of the accident A statement issued He said that the school was “deeply unhappy” to know about the passing of Lobac.

Loback, who was Durham native, graduated from UNC in 2019.

Other soldiers killed in Wednesday’s accident were 28 -year -old staff Sergeant. Ryan O’Hara and Chief Warrant Officer 2 Andrew Loyd Ews. O’Hara was from Georgia and Ews from Maryland.
